Planning for the 2018 Skipton Swimarathon is underway, with the dates set for Wednesday 3rd – Sunday 7th October.
Registration will be open in July. If you would like to help to raise money for our community, please make a team of 4 or more (we recommend at least 8) and in July visit our Registration Page to enter. Last year enjoyed the biggest turnout to date with a record number of swimmers taking part. 1,982 swimmers took to the pool to swim a combined total of over 700km as part of the community led event, with funds raised reaching the £55,000 mark. The majority of funds raised will be donated to the Guille-Allés’ Children’s Library as part of their project to redesign the library area. Skipton Swimarathon chairman Nick Guillemette said: “The spirit of the Swimarathon was to involve as much of the Island as possible, whether they be abled bodied or not, blind, deaf, six months old or 90. It really was the taking part that counts!” The first Swimarathon Organising Committee was formed by The Lions Club of Guernsey, Guernsey Round Table and Variety Club of Guernsey under the chairmanship of Harry Bisson in 1977 with the aim of raising funds to put back into the community. Forty years later and the event has grown from 1,000 swimmers to over 1,800 in 2015, raising over £1,300,000 for Guernsey charities. The Skipton Swimarathon is run jointly by the Lions Club of Guernsey and Guernsey Round Table and sponsored by local bank Skipton International.
